Weathering the Storm

I love nautical stuff! If it has whales, anchors, sailboats, etc. I am usually all in. (I actually got a scarf with little blue whales on it the other day ;) ) The ocean is also one of my favorite places. I don't even care to swim in it; if I can just sit/stand and watch it I am perfectly content. Why? Because it leaves me in awe. There are so many things in the depth of that ocean that I can't see. The ocean holds a beautiful mystery that keeps me enthralled. Keeping this in mind, imagine my reaction when
someone pointed out the verses Psalm 107:23-30 (KJV) to me.
They read:

23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

I find myself going to these verses often. But, it's not only my ocean obsession that make me love these verses. They so beautifully show how much God loves us. As Christians, we all go through storms; trials of some sort. It may be the loss of a loved one, a good friend decides not to be your friend anymore, any number of things. But these verses show that the storm won't last forever! I've been through these storms myself, even recently. Just remember that God means everything for your good.
These verses and a good friend, who was having a hard time, inspired me to write a poem that is entitled "Tossed".

  Tossed⚓
Tossed to and fro on life's troubled sea,

We're tempted to ask Lord, why me?

Our ships tossed with the waves, sails ripped by the wind,
But the Lord sees our plight and help he will send,
Just when we think we
are done no strength left to go,
The Lord reaches down a safe haven to us He'll show,
The waves He'll calm and the wind He'll cease,
The sea will be stilled and lie in peace,
Just one more mile only one more wave,
Until the Lords calms the storm his ship to save.

I hope this post encourages someone who may be in a storm. Just remember, storms don't last forever. If you look closely at the verses those who go out into great waters see the works of God in  the deep waters. Maybe you're going through deep waters right now but think of it this way: You may learn something in this storm that you couldn't learn in the sunshine and smooth seas.
After all, "A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor".
